Introduction

Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) is a three-year full time degree programme. It is affiliated to University of Mumbai. The programme is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the principles and practices of accounts, finance, taxation, auditing, and management. This course integrates theoretical knowledge with practical application, preparing students for careers in the financial sector, corporate world, or for advanced studies. The teaching methods includes lectures, presentations and case studies. There are various guest lectures and seminars conducted in order to give practical experience to the students by the professionals. The curriculum includes internships, projects, and industry interactions to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world application.

The programme focuses on developing analytical abilities, critical thinking, and a strong sense of ethical business conduct. It equips students with the skills required to analyse financial data, handle budgeting processes, maintain regulatory compliance, and support strategic financial decision-making. Eligibility

A candidate for being eligible for admission to the Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) Degree course shall have passed XII std examination of the Maharashtra State Board of Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent and secured not less than 45% marks in aggregate at first attempt (40% in case of reserved category). Every candidate admitted to the Programme shall have to register himself/herself with the University of Mumbai.

Admission

Admission to the course offered by the rules framed by the University of Mumbai from time to time and will be given at the commencement of the first semester.
Candidates seeking admission other than Maharashtra board and colleges affiliated other than University of Mumbai must produce a Transfer Certificate from the board/college last attended.

Programme Outcome

  • It enables students to understand fundamentals of accounting, taxation, costing, financial management, auditing, management accounting, etc.
  • The main objective of this course is to provide a deeper understanding of accounting and financial management with the help of updated and latest reference material and to be taught with practical orientation.
  • Learners can make their career in the field of Accounting, Finance and Taxation World. Learners can become financial experts and also develop a better understanding of the markets as this course gives an in-depth understanding of the essential qualities and areas of expertise required for such jobs.
  • The programme aims to develop professional skills among the learners in order to develop a strong foundation for the application of concepts and techniques of Accounting and Finance in organizational settings.
  • The contents of each course have been carefully designed to prepare students with knowledge and skill sets that will not only make them industry ready but also foster entrepreneurial and innovative thinking.
  • The course focuses on the preparation, presentation analysis, compliance, taxation and the accounting framework applicable to the entities, to make the students well versed in the field of financial accounting.
  • To facilitate students to pursue higher studies in Chartered Accountancy Course, Cost and   Management Accounting, MBA in Finance etc.

Scheme of Examination

The Examination is divided in two parts:
1. Continuous Internal Assessment

  1. For 04 Credits – 40 Marks.
  2. For 02 Credits – 20 Marks.

2. Semester End Examination

  1.  For 04 Credits – 60 Marks.
  2.  For 02 Credits – 30 Marks.

  • A guest lecture on Financial Budget was organized for B.Com (Accounting and Finance) students, featuring expert insights from Dr. Shardul Shah and Mr. Hiral Suresh Shah. The session aimed to deepen students’ understanding of budgeting concepts and their practical relevance. (February 10, 2025)
  • A seminar on MBA degree programs was organized was for B. Com (Accounting and Finance) students. It also comprehensively covered CAT examination preparation strategies and study materials, college selection criteria for MBA aspirants and entrance examination requirements. (February 12, 2025)
  • FINCOUNTS – (BAF Initiative) two days departmental activity was organised by the students of B.Com (Accounting and Finance). Fincounts offered a pléthora of opportunities for students to unlock their full potential, encouraging critical thinking, teamwork, and innovation in the field of Accounting and Finance. (February 3 and 4, 2025)

  • The Value Vault Unit had conducted a seminar on Can't Hurt Me by David Goggins, focusing on mental toughness, resilience, and self-discipline. The key concepts discussed included the 40% Rule, which states that when you feel like giving up, you still have 60% left to give, and the Cookie Jar Method, using past victories as motivation.   • A visit to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) was organised for the students. The objective of the visit was to provide students with practical insights into the functioning of financial markets and the evolution of the Bombay Stock Exchange. (December 10, 2024)
  • A Session on on Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, exploring its philosophical significance and real-world implications was organized for the students. The session aimed in promoting critical thinking skills, encouraged broader perspective on reality, deep understanding of philosophical concepts. (October 26, 2024)
  • A session was conducted by the Value Vault Team on the topic Value Beyond the Business of TATA. The seminar focused on the life and values of Ratan Tata, highlighting the lasting impact he has made on future generations. The session was interactive and insightful, offering participants a deeper understanding of the values that shaped the TATA legacy. (November 30, 2024)
  • Mr. Manaksh Bhanushali from the Maharashtra Government’s SDG Cell conducted a guest lecture on Sustainability Management. The speaker addressed global issues like climate change, resource depletion, and inequality, emphasizing the need for sustainability in modern strategies. (August 30, 2024)
