The Importance of Sindhi Culture

                                                                          Vishal Ganeshani (T.Y.B.Com.)

The modern generation is an epitome of the various changes that have been and are being witnessed. They are the
harbingers of growth. They portray versatility. They are capable of breaking the ravaging stereotypes and even
questioning hierarchy while revering culture and tradition.
It is sad to see a culture and language as rich as Sindhi gradually decline in usage and for this society and social
environment is largely to be blamed. From their childhood children are imbibed with thoughts of success and fame.
They are imposed with a challenge of achieving success no matter what it takes and to consider only the aspects that
contribute to it and discard everything else. They aren't even encouraged to pick up a hobby. They have burgeoning
demands to excel in academics, to pick up a high paying job or establish a successful business. The rat race is wild
and the youth has become accustomed to it. The mindset of the people is so inflicted by modernization that they
quite often have little regard for their tradition, culture and language. Excessive modernization is leading youth into
a vicious downward spiral without them realizing what they are
           gradually losing.
My thoughts are focused on reviving and restoring the glory of
Sindhi language, traditions and culture which are inching towards
extinction. The pitfalls need to be identified and an interest and
amour needs to be regenerated. Both mental and emotional change
is the need of the hour. Literature, Art and Music can help to revive
it and will also help to bring about a sense of pride in one's roots.
The identity crisis has to be overcome.

Measures in the direction of the revival of the rich culture of Sindh
can be the use of technology - Apps and YouTube videos should be
promoted to ensure learning at own pace. Minority institutions, in
particular should encourage the learning of Sindhi language
because language leads the road to an understanding of culture.
Another great initiative has been undertaken by SINDHI SANGAT
which sends Audio/TV mobile software all over India where Sindhi
is taught as a subject. They arrange Nursery Rhyme competitions
for children in those schools and award 20 Tablets to those who
excel in order to motivate them. This strategy is now 05 years
old.NCPSL National Council for Promotion of Sindhi Language
(New Delhi, India) is also playing a great role by offering various
           platforms.
Along with words, music and modern art forms can also play an instrumental role as a fun way to learn a language.
Competitions in these fields can be sponsored by those desiring to conserve the rich culture of Sindh. The
assumption that only a foreign language can be beneficial or make one look and behave cool should be expunged.
The language should be spoken at home and with family members to facilitate both family and community bonding.
Speaking the language should generate a sense of pride rather than a conscious hesitation to use it in public.

The flame of the torch of Sindhi language, culture and heritage should never be dimmed!
