From the Editor’s Desk ...

An Editorial is customarily written on a trending subject, but this one is going to veer away from the
norm. It is personal and passionate, garnished with emotion and sprinkled with nostalgia. It is my
farewell note – my swan song, as I'm all set to superannuate and commence on a new phase in life..

Over the past three decades and more that I have served at Hinduja College I have witnessed the
transformation of the institution from a single stream Commerce College to a centre of learning that
offers over twenty programmes and is affiliated to both, the University of Mumbai and YCMOU. The
stature of the College has grown immensely. Local level activities have made way for State, National and
even International events. With every successive NAAC Peer Team visit the Grade of the College has
upscaled; the institution has earned recognition as 'The Best College of the University of Mumbai' and a
'College with Potential for Excellence', besides being designated as an 'Autonomous' institution.

When the first Desktop computer was purchased for college use there was a hushed apprehension,
excitement and a sense of coming of age, much in contrast to the current scenario where Hinduja College
can boast about contemporary Computer Labs and technology with a leading edge. Multiple, in fact,
hundred extension numbers to our landline phone with a pre-recorded welcome message was another
milestone in the growth trajectory of the College. A heartache, however, had been felt when the Hinduja
Auditorium was shut down, but the ache subsided when the theatre made way for additional classrooms
for new programmes to be offered by the College. The Staff Common Room and the Library premises were
expanded; in fact, a second Staff Common Room was set up to accommodate the burgeoning faculty to
cater to the growing student numbers; the Gymkhana and Canteen were relocated; flooring and
furniture were revamped; biometric attendance was introduced; hand filled documents made way for
printed ones; the Prospectus and the College Yearbook were digitalized; online methods of meeting and
teaching began to trend and in a few weeks or perhaps a couple of months the College will be relocated so
that its structure is pulled down to build a state-of-the-art institution with detailed infrastructure and
facilities.

On a personal note, I joined Hinduja College in my early twenties as a fresher; enhanced my
qualifications; enriched my life experiences and shall be moving out as a senior citizen from the
institution that I love, and which has given me innumerable academic and professional opportunities
and lifetime friends. I shall miss you Hinduja College; I shall miss my co-workers and above all, my
students who kept me intellectually stimulated and young at heart, never letting me comprehend the
passage of time. But then, life is a series of meetings and partings where we meet to create memories and
part to preserve them. The basket of memories of my association with this, the only institution where I
ever worked, is abundant, colourful and fragrant. Its memories, I feel sure, will keep me buoyant in times
of yearning.
