National Service Scheme
Conveners: Dr. Gayatri Agarwal (Aided) & Dr. Nitin Bharaskar (SFC)
In keeping with the motto of the NSS, 'Not Me but You', the College Unit conducted a range of unique
and innovative social service activities in an endeavor to reach out to all sections of society during
the pandemic related lockdown. The volunteers offered assistance to retain normalcy and to spread
positivity through their varied outreach activities which included the following:
● An online Yoga session titled 'Be a Yogi - with Yogi Kush' was conducted by international Yoga
Instructor, Dr. Kush Panchal. He emphasized on the importance of practicing Yoga and guided
the participants on how they can take care of their mental and physical health. He gave
instruction about some useful Yoga asanas to cope with various body-related ailments and also
conducted a meditation session along with the participants. (October 22, 2020)
● A webinar titled 'Vocal for Local' was organised to raise awareness about the importance of
using 'swadeshi' or local products. Prof. Rohan Abhyankar was invited to speak on the same. He
briefly shared his knowledge about the history of India's development through the ages and
explained to the participants the need to start using 'Made in India' products, especially from
small-scale sellers to help them earn their livelihood and gradually help in the economic
development of the nation. (November 07, 2020)
● An informative session, 'Don't Drug Yourself Down' was conducted by Mr. Roshan
Mansukhani to shed light on the vicious circle of drug addiction into which youth are being
drawn mainly because of peer pressure. The speaker shared tips on how one should deal with
stressful situations and made the participants realize the importance of self-love and self-care.

● A webinar titled 'Two Wheels, One Life' was organized to explain the importance of two
wheeler road safety. The speakers, Mr. Rohit Dalvi and Mr. Cyril Gaikwad covered various
aspects of road safety such as buying a good quality helmet, safety protocols to be followed on
road, the meaning of various road signs and markings and other useful information. (November

● Ms. Aasavari Velankar, a Sanskrit Gold Medalist, conducted a session on 'Sanskrit, Forgotten,
but Still Important' wherein she emphasized on Sanskrit being one of the oldest languages in the
world and its importance. She also taught volunteers the correct pronunciation of several
Sanskrit phrases and discussed how knowledge of Sanskrit can also offer meaningful and
lucrative career options. (February 18, 2021)
● On the occasion of International Women's Day, the NSS Unit conducted 'Aatmaraksha', a
practical online session on self-defence. Master Sanjay Pawar along with one of his black-belt
students demonstrated several self-defense techniques against different types of knife attacks.
They even instructed participants about the need and importance of exercises such as push-ups,
squats, stretching etc. to strengthen the body to be able to handle any form of attack. Volunteers
eagerly performed and practiced each demonstration in a virtual mode along with the speaker.
