National Service Scheme (NSS)

In keeping with the motto of the NSS, 'Not Me but You', the Unit conducted a range of social service
activities and endeavored to reach out to the underprivileged sections of society.
Activities Conducted
w Two Blood Donation Camps were conducted by the NSS Units of the College in collaboration with
KEM Hospital on August 21, 2019 and January 24, 2020. 107 units of blood were collected in the
rst camp and 97 units in the second. Certicates were awarded to donors.
w The Unit volunteers cleaned Girgaon Chowpatty Beach for an entire week from November 11 -
17, 2019 and collected large amounts of plastic, cloth and other non-biodegradable waste
matter. They were also provided with information about the adverse effects of waste disposal on
marine life in water reservoirs.

w Tree Plantation Drives were conducted by NSS volunteers at Manori Island on July 13, 2019 and
November 24, 2019 in an endeavor to provide a better and sustainable future for Planet Earth
and the generations to come.

w A one-day awareness event on Water Conservation was organized on November 15, 2019. In
this event volunteers prepared handmade Posters and performed a Street Play to generate
awareness about the need and importance of water conservation. The speaker on the occasion,
Shri. Shrikant Parab shared simple steps for water conservation

w On November 28, 2019, the Unit conducted an event to generate HIV/AIDS awareness. Ms.
Roshni Kadam, the speaker on the occasion spoke about the causes, symptoms, required tests,
treatment and precautions that should be taken to prevent the spread of the disease. The
volunteers also painted handkerchiefs and conducted a rally to spread awareness about
HIV/AIDS among the masses.

w A University level workshop under the name 'Social Awareness Ride' was organized by the Unit on
December 21, 2019 in which NSS Units of other colleges were also invited to participate. The
Workshop was divided into four segments, namely, Gender Sensitization, RTI (Right to
Information) Act and its application, Sexual Harassment and a practical session on Disaster
Management.
w Other activities organized during the course of the year included various Poster Making
competitions; making 'Best of Waste' products; paper and cloth bag making etc. to spread
awareness about raging social issues and to generate eco-consciousness.
